Tamannaah Bhatia has been selected for the prestigious Shantaram Award for 2008, for her performance in 'Konchem Ishtam Konchem Kashtam'.
The movie's director Kishore Kumar won the award for the best debutant director.
The Rajkamal Academy of Cinematic Excellence sponsors these awards annually in memory of the legendary filmmaker V. Shantaram. The awards are given to films on an all India basis; this is the first time that a south Indian actress gets selected for this award. Other awards will be announced on December 21 in Mumbai, says Kiran Kumar Shantaram, Chairman of the academy.
Tamannaah has been going from strength to strength since her debut in Tollywood with 'Happy Days' two years ago. This year, she has starred in three big hits in Tamil--'Padikkadhavan' 'Ayan' and 'Kandaen Kadhali'.
