Actress Sameera Reddy Misses an Admirer!

Actress Sameera Reddy, who is looking gorgeous after losing weight, misses a man in her life.

"It gets really lonely. And I know I'm looking my best these days. Thanks to yoga, I've lost oodles of flesh," Sameera told us.

"But what's the point of looking good when you've no one to admire you?"

After her sister Meghna's marriage Sameera remains solitary.

"My sister Meghna is now married to a Greek and settled on the most exotic Greek island. My brother-in-law spoils me silly. They both love me because I convinced our conservative dad about the unlikely marital alliance," she said.

Sameera turned 27 recently and her birthday turned out to be a very special occasion when filmmaker Priyadarshan, who has just given the actress her first hit since 'Race' in 'De Dana Dan', turned around and said, "You're in my next film".

Sameera, who has become close to Priyadarshan and his wife Lizzie and in fact spends all her free time during her frequent visits to Chennai in their house, is still reeling in pleasure.

"I couldn't have got a better birthday gift. Firstly, it turned out to be Priyan and Lizzie's marriage anniversary. So we had my birthday and their anniversary party at Shristi Behl's residence. All three of us Lizzie, Priyan and I cut a cake," she said.

The icing on the cake was Priyan's impulsive offer.

"I don't need to ask him what it is or in which film. I trust him completely. He gave me a role in 'De Dana Dan' that did justice to my presence. This at a time when I was desperately trying to shed my sexy image," she said.

Not many people know this, but Sameera has a special appearance in the Bihar-based film that Priyadarshan is shooting with Ajay Devgn, Akshaye Khanna and Bipasha Basu.

"How do you know about this?" Sameera demands to know. "So that makes it three film with Priyan. I'm really lucky to have Priyan and his wife as friends. Now when I go to Chennai which is like a second home to me thanks to the work that I do. In fact, my latest Tamil hit was mixed in Priyan's studio in Chennai, so the bond thickens."

But her film with Nagesh Kukunoor - 'Yeh Husla' - remains stuck.

"That's because the producers have bungled. They're in a real financial mess. They owe almost everyone associated with them quite a lot of money."

Zeenat Aman - Veteran Bollywood Bomshell doesnt wanna Play Helpless Mom Roles!

Yesteryears glamour girl Zeenat Aman can give the current lot of actresses a run for their money with her style and poise even at 58.

She says she is looking forward to doing offbeat and "age appropriate" roles but is clear that she doesn't want to play a "bechari maa" (helpless mother).

"I would like to work with any good filmmaker who offers me an age appropriate role. Like an older woman who has something to do in a movie except for the 'woh bechari maa'. I think women have many more dimensions than just that," Zeenat told us in an interview.

The actress, who was in the capital to launch Kanchan Kapoor's The W Factor Club - a women's wine appreciation and celebration club - says even though she has been associated with glamour all through her life, she wants to do offbeat films now.

"Of course I want to do different roles. One always likes to do something different. Just because one is glamorous or looks glamorous doesn't mean he or she doesn't have brains or that one doesn't know his or her craft," she said.

Zeenat, who was last seen in 'Ugly Aur Pagli', says she stayed away from the arc lights for years as she was busy raising her two children - Azaan, 23 and Zahaan, 20.

"My family, my work, my life has kept me busy all this while. I have been primarily busy with my family. My boys lost their father around 11 years ago. They were very little, so my first priority was my family and my children. I had to be both mom and dad to them. Everything else became secondary in my life. But now they are grown up," she said.

Asked if her children are considering a career in films, she said: "Never say never. I don't know. They might just get into movies. The older one has actually just finished his bachelors in film direction."

So does he plan to direct his mother soon?

"They direct me enough at home - mumma this, mumma that," she laughed. Though she added on a more serious note: "He will be directing films some time though."

Zeenat says she is now working on a few films, including Sanjay Sharma's "Dunno Y...Jaane Kyun", but didn't want to divulge any details about the movie.

"I'm working on a few films, but when they are absolutely ready, that would be the right time to talk about it," she said.

Zeenat, who walked the ramp for the first time in the capital, says she gets occasional calls to participate in fashion shows and she chooses them according to her convenience.

"If I have time and I feel like it, I go for fashion weeks. I have walked the ramp in Kolkata and Mumbai. I was invited to Chennai but couldn't go. This is the first time I have walked the ramp in Delhi," said Zeenat, who was looking elegant in a black-red kaftan by her favourite designer Sapna Chopra.

A former Miss India, Zeenat didn't look a wee bit uncomfortable walking the runway.

"It was an interesting experience. When you have done something, it's not difficult to go back to it. Did I look uncomfortable? I wasn't at all," she said.

'Accident On Hill Road' not based on Salman khan's Infamous Case!

Mahesh Nair says his directorial debut 'Accident On Hill Road' is not based on actor Salman Khan's infamous hit-and-run but admits that the film refers to it.

"The story is not based on Salman Khan's accident, but there is a reference to Salman Khan incident," Nair told us.

In September 2002, Salman Khan drove his jeep over some people sleeping outside a bakery on Hill Road junction in Bandra here, killing one and causing serious injuries to three people.

"Salman Khan did one accident, but in India 250 accidents take place every hour. There are reports on it. This film is based on accident and every one of us have either met with one or has heard of it from friends," he added.

Nair informs that it is based on a real incident that happened in the US.

"There was an incident similar to the plot of the film that happened in the US. The incident was that a woman hit a man then drove home and parked the car in the garage with the man wedged halfway through her windshield," he said.

"There is already a film on this incident and we have adapted from it. We bought its rights," he added.

Asked how is it different from the original film, he said: "It shows what a person originally does if he meets or sees an accident - either he calls police or just passes by as if nothing has happened or tries to help the victim. The film portrays realistic angles."

Talking about Salman's incident, he said: "From the Salman Khan incident I have taken that some people do severe accidents, but nothing happens to them and they resume a normal life."

Celina Jaitley, Abhimanyu Singh and Farooq Shaikh play lead roles in the film. Made on a shoestring budget, the film will release Dec 31.

Katrina Kaif: Always the Modest Bollywood Star!

Katrina Kaif has had three big hits in 2009. A record that none of her peers can begin to equal in these times of creative and box office recession.

That isn't all. She has just been declared as the sexiest Asian actress by a leading Asian website from London.

But the girl remains grounded, so much so that she refuses to budge from her abode in a bustling part of Mumbai. "I know I've been reading about relocating my home. I admit I've looked at a few properties. But nothing seriously. Though it's a little noisy on my street I'm too attached to the place I stay in. I'm also too lazy to make a move. Yes I'll need a bigger place when my sister Isabelle joins me. But right now she's studying acting in the US. There's still time," yawns Bollywood's hottest and sexiest girl.

So is she planning to move home? "Not at all. I've always wanted a home by the sea. But I love my current home too much. So no plans of moving"

No plans of signing any new films yet either. "It's very sweet of directors to mention my name in forthcoming projects. I feel privileged. But I haven't said yes to anything new. At the moment I've cut my workload by half because of my ill health."

As for being designated one of Asia's sexiest women by Eastern Eye Katrina laughs, "Me? Hot and sexy? Nah. People should see me at home. I'm painfully unglamorous. Just another working girl making a living."

Priyanka Chopra Scared of Failures!

Priyanka Chopra, one of the most sought after actresses in the Hindi film industry, says she is sacred of failure and that she reels under a 'flop' for a long time.

"Failure is something that scares me a lot. And failure of a film not only disappoints me, it breaks my heart because I put in lot of efforts in all my films," Priyanka told reporters at the success party of Arindam Chaudhuri's book 'Discover The Diamond In You'.

"Every time a film doesn't do well, I mourn for at least three weeks. It takes me really a long time to get out of it."

Priyanka is impressed by Chaudhuri's book.

"I think success is very important. In this concise book of only 59 pages, professor Chaudhuri has given a fantastic explanation on how in nine different ways one can make himself a successful human being," said Priyanka.

'Discover The Diamond In You' is Chaudhuri's third book after 'Count Your Chickens Before They Are Hatched' and 'The Great Indian Dreams'.

Release of 2 Movies on the same date changed!

The release date of Ram Gopal Varma's 'Rann' has now been pushed ahead to avoid a clash with Anil Sharma's 'Veer'.

Both the films were scheduled to release Jan 22, next year but now 'Veer' will release Jan 22, while 'Rann' will hit screens a week later.

Apparently, Sharma called up Sheetal Talwar, co-producer of 'Rann', explaining why and how a clash between the two films must be averted.

"I saw reason in what Anil Sharma said. There's no sense in creating a no-win situation for two films. See, when 'Gadar - Ek Prem Katha' and 'Lagaan' came together, things were different. But now audiences are in no mood to buy tickets for two big films in the same week," Talwar told us.

It was said to be a clash of patriotic passion when Sharma's 'Gadar' and Ashutosh Gowariker's 'Lagaan' were released on June 15, 2001. Both proved to be historic blockbusters.

Sharma sees his latest offering 'Veer', which is set in colonial India, as a patriotic period film. While Varma's 'Rann', set in the modern world of media manipulation, is perceived by its makers as a comment on our times and hence patriotic.

'Rann' has Amitabh Bachchan in pivotal role, while Salman Khan plays main lead in 'Veer'.

The people behind both films were adamant on same day release, but now Talwar says: "There's no point in creating an ego issue by insisting we release 'Rann' on the same day as 'Veer'. One or the other film is bound to suffer at the box office. Why not release a week later when we get a relatively free Friday?"

'My Name Is Khan', that has Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol in main leads, has nothing to do with terrorism.

Putting speculations to rest, director-producer Karan Johar said that his forthcoming film 'My Name Is Khan', that has Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol in main leads, has nothing to do with terrorism.

"'My Name is Khan' has nothing to do with terrorism. It is not a terrorism-based plot at all. It is a humanitarian tale about love and sacrifice," Karan told reporters after unveiling the first look of 'My Name Is Khan' at JW Marriot Hotel.

The film's story revolves around Rizwan Khan (Shah Rukh) who suffers from Asperger syndrome, a form of autism. Rizwan falls in love with a single mother Mandira (Kajol) who lives in San Francisco. Rizwan is detained by authorities at Los Angeles International Airport, mistaking his disability for "suspicious" behaviour.

"It is about overcoming a phase, it is about triumph of the human spirit," said Karan.

Shah Rukh and Karan's last outing together 'Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna' (2006) couldn't spell magic at the box office.

But the superstar seems to be pretty impressed with Karan's work in 'My Name Is Khan' and said that the film is the ultimate evolution of the director's work.

"I have worked with Karan in his first film ('Kuch Kuch Hota Hai') and has been with him all through his journey. I think 'My Name Is Khan' is his ultimate evolution," said Shah Rukh.

"In this film, the way Karan has touched upon the scenes and sequences, it is very different from his all previous films," he added.

The film is slated to release Feb 12 next year.

Movie Review: Kannada: Raavana

"Raavana" is a remake of director Selvaraghavan's Tamil film "Kaadal Kondein" that became a huge hit and catapulted actor Dhanush into the top star league.

The original Tamil film, which was released five years ago, not only suited the tastes of Tamil audiences but also had some daring, dark sequences.

But Yogish Hunasuru has tried to present this film as a pure family entertainer. As a result, the thrill found in the Tamil film is absent here. "Raavana" is certainly not a patch on the original.

The sequences where the obsessive hero makes diabolic plans to get his lover were well conceived and narrated in the original. Unfortunately, the same sequences lack the impact in the Kannada film. Even the hero's characterisation in the Tamil film was influenced by Shah Rukh Khan's role in "Darr", but Yogish has tried to be more sympathetic to his character.

The positive aspect of "Raavana" is that it has been able to retain the same level of curiosity and interest in the tense moments seen in the climax as in the original. Yogi has come out with flying colours in the last few sequences of the film.

Even the original music compositions of Abhiman Roy stand out with songs like "Ninna Maneyolage", "Thampu Thampu Gaali" and "Chakli Nippattu" becoming hugely popular. But on the whole, "Raavana" does not create an impact.

In the film, Vinod becomes a target of ridicule in his college because of his introvert nature and negative attitude. He doesn't dress well and wants to remain aloof, but a young girl, Divya, takes an interest in him and counsels him to be more confident.

Vinod gains confidence, but Divya's interest and sympathy for him is mistaken for love. When Vinod comes to know that Divya is attracted towards another student, Aadi, he loses his mental balance and becomes a psychopathic schemer.

He makes Divya believe that he is helping her, but actually hatches a diabolical plot to kill Aadi and others who come in the way of his plans.

Yogish has put in efforts to show the duality of his role and he partly succeeds in his efforts. His performance in the climax is really good. Sanchitha Padukone is expressive through her eyes, but can learn a lot more in acting.

Santhosh appears more confident in his role. But some artists like Dwarakish and Sreenivasa Murthy do not fit into the roles they essay.

A lot of money seems to have been spent on some songs, which are well choreographed. Giri's camera work is sure to impress the audiences.

"Raavana" is nowehere near its Tamil original, but it can be watched once for its thrilling moments.

Kannada Movie : Jeeva: Movie Review

Prajwal Devaraj's new film 'Jeeva' ends up as an ordinary fare despite its gripping climax, which looks like a take off from some Hollywood film.

The film suffers mainly because of a weak screenplay and tedious narration. You may have to sit through nearly 100 minutes of boredom to watch an interesting ending.

'Jeeva' still deserves a one-time watch mainly because of Prajwal's top class performance and Guru Kiran's melodious compositions. The actor comes out with his best performance till date. He shows a lot of maturity in handling a complex role, which often changes track according to developing situations.

Guru Kiran has come out with some great tunes like "Summane Yaake Bandhe". But for these two elements, the film could have been a goner.

Debutant director Prabhu Srinivas is a well-known choreographer in the south Indian film industry. He should have taken extreme care in writing the script for his debut film. The main focus of the film is about the confusion created by an exchange of medical reports.

But this element has often been used in many Kannada films and even in Telugu block buster 'Premabhishekham'. Prabhu has created a hot-potch script containing some good sequences here and there. But he has scored in what he does best - the songs have been choreographed well.

The story is about Jeeva, the pampered son of a minister. Jeeva is attracted to Jaanaki but she refuses his overtures and even humiliates Jeeva and his father at a party. But later she makes amends and decides to marry Jeeva.

Now, Jeeva turns around and tells her that he wants to avenge the humiliation faced by his father. Meanwhile, because of a serious medical blunder he is diagnosed with cancer. How Jeeva faces this critical situation forms the rest of the story.

Prajwal has put in all efforts to prove his talents, but all goes in vain because of the poor script. Newcomer Ruthwa shows promise.

Veteran actors Guru Datt and Chandrashekhar are effective in their respective roles. And Guru Kiran scores in his music.

'Jeeva' is a let down mainly because of its poor script. Prajwal, however, shines in this otherwise drab film.

Goan Under Belly to become a Movie soon!

Inspired by the realistic style used in Steven Soderberg's 'Traffic', Rohan Sippy is set to direct a film about drug-peddling in Goa and he is looking at a cast that can look as Goan as possible.

'Real Goan ethos' in new Sippy film

"I want to get into the cinema verite (French term for realistic cinema) with this film. I'm deeply inspired by the realistic style used in Steven Soderberg's 'Traffic' and even 'District 9', though that's not at all the space I'm entering in my new film," Rohan told us.

"Even my crime caper 'Bluffmaster' was shot on actual locations. But now I want to capture the real Goan ethos and spirit. And for that I need my actors to act, look, behave, dress and speak like Goans," he added.

Abhishek Bachchan is the only actor who has been finalised so far for the film.

"We're in talks with others including Pratik Babbar. But no one except Abhishek has been finalized. Like I said I want actors who can look like authentic Goans," said Rohan.

Abhishek, currently shooting in Goa for Ashutosh Gowariker's period film 'Khelenge Hum Jee Jaan Se', is using his spare time to cruise the beaches and cafes to understand how the Goan underbelly works.

The actor is also trying to pick up Portuguese and Konkani for the character of the drug-busting cop he plays in Rohan's film.

Since a lot of the film is to be shot on the crowded streets and beaches of Goa, Rohan will construct sets whenever actual Goan locations would be impossible to shoot.

Asked why Aishwarya isn't in the cast of his film, he said: "The minute I think of a project, I think of both of them in the cast. Though my new film has a couple of strong female parts, Aishwarya doesn't fit in."

It has been more than four years since Rohan directed 'Bluffmaster'.

"Why only that? I've directed only two films in seven years. Now my writer Sridhar Raghavan has written three scripts that I'd like to direct. Hopefully, I'd like to make up for lost time," said Rohan who recently tied the knot with Roopa De Chowdhury.

Speaking about his wife, he said: "She was the line producer for my production 'Chandni Chowk To China' and also on board for Arjun Rampal's production. She's a very private person and doesn't like me discussing her in public."

"Only when I go home in the night do I allow myself the luxury of feeling tired. On 17th I run with the torch. Then I return to Canada again to see some of the Olympics sports. I wouldn't miss it for the world."

But the actor has one regret before he left that his son Aarav couldn't accompany him.

"It was just for a day. And I somehow managed to squeeze it into my schedule. For Aarav, it'd be too tiring. If I was going for at least five-six days, I'd have taken my wife (Twinkle Khanna) and son."

The torch for the 2010 Winter Olympics will be in Toronto from Dec 17 to 19. The 2010 Winter Games shall be held at Vancouver Feb 12-28.

Bollywood Actor Aamir Khan's Disguise!

Film star Aamir Khan was not allowed inside former Indian cricket skipper Sourav Ganguly's palatial residence by the guards who told the actor disdainfully that the batsman was not at home. However, the guards cannot be faulted, as Aamir was in disguise.

The celebrated actor was on the latest leg of his two-week country tour in different get-ups as part of his unique way of promoting his forthcoming film '3 Idiots'.

Attired in a black shirt, sporting a hippy-like mop of hair, and carrying a bag, Aamir walked the streets of Kolkata asking people the way to Ganguly's residence and sought entry into the house claiming to be a fan of the cricketer. "I want to take a photo with him."

Aamir dropped his disguise after he was refused entry and was warmly received by the cricketer once he returned home after scoring a ton in the Ranji Trophy outing against Delhi.

Ganguly took Aamir to his sprawling drawing room full of trophies and prizes and aesthetic paintings which astounded the actor.

"Why did you retire so soon. From fans' point of view we all felt you should have played more," Aamir said, as his wife Kiran Rao nodded approvingly.

Aamir and Kiran wound up their visit to Ganguly's place with a sumptuous Bengali dinner. But before taking leave, Aamir presented a ring to the cricketer.

"Whenever you see this ring, you will remember me," said Aamir.

"Thank you. But without the ring also I will recognise you," Ganguly replied.

Director Ken Ghosh Admits To Differences Betwn him and Actor Shahid Kapur!

Director Ken Ghosh admits he had arguments with Shahid Kapoor on the sets of his forthcoming film 'Chance Pe Dance'. He said it had to do with the actor's saturated schedules.

"For the first time in his career, Shahid was doing three films at the same time - 'Kaminey', 'Dil Bole Hadippa' and my film 'Chance Pe Dance'. Naturally, there was a conflict of interest," Ghosh told us.

"I'd ask for three days. He would have only one day to spare. I'd naturally be upset. Then understandably, Shahid wanted time off. He couldn't be seen on my set straight after shooting for one of the other two films. This naturally led to heated arguments."

"For me as a director, it was okay to come on the sets without sleep. But Shahid had to catch up on his resting time. Or the dark circles would have shown on camera."

The last thing that Ghosh wanted was for his hero to fall ill. "Priyanka Chopra had to be hospitalized because of overwork and exhaustion. I didn't want Shahid to go through the same experience," he said.

Ghosh says arguments and fights during the making of 'Chance Pe Dance' were for the betterment of the movie.

"But they were all for the betterment of the film. See when Shahid did his first film 'Ishq Vishk' with me, he only had that film on hand and was able to give me his full attention," he said.

The effort has been worth it for both Shahid and Ghosh.

"Shahid's dancing in 'Chance Pe Dance' is the film's mainstay. But his performance is not just about dancing. Some of the things he has done in the dramatic scenes took me by surprise. Shahid has brought subtle expressions into scenes which I didn't catch while shooting. Only during editing I realized what he had done."

Ghosh admits the actor has changed. "Isn't change inevitable? We all evolve with time. Shahid is no exception."

Also starring Genelia D'Souza, 'Chance Pe Dance' is expected to hit the screens Jan 15.

Bollywood Actor and Model Dino Morea Wants to get married!

Dino Morea, who has been seen often in the company of his long-standing friend Nandita Mahtani, doesn't rule out permanence in his relationship with her. The actor-producer says he needs one special person in his life now.

"This time whoever it is, it will be for keeps. I do look for someone to share my life with now," Dino, who turned 34 Dec 9, told us.

"We've had our share of ups and downs. But we've always been close, no matter what has happened in our lives. As for the other women, they've their own conscience to deal with," he added.

Dino's parents flew in to Mumbai from Bangalore for his birthday. "It was us three brothers and my parents. Now I need that one special person. That's all one needs to make a complete life, no?"

The entrepreneur side to Dino's personality seems more assertive at the moment than the actor. After opening a bar, the actor-producer is all set to open three more branches here.

"One branch would be in South Mumbai, the other in Lokhandwala-Versova and the third in or near Malad," said Dino, who also runs a production house called Clockworks.

He opened his first bar in Bandra.

"I want the bar culture in Mumbai to be quieter and more spacious so that people can just come in for a quiet drink and relax. Bars have become strangely synonymous with noisy smoky places. I want to change that," he said.

Dino is also ready to market male designer clothes.

As for movies, Dino would rather wait than do the cameos that have been offered to him lately with the promise of better roles.

Nothing is Impossible Says Acclaimed Filmmaker Shekar kapur!

Internationally acclaimed filmmaker Shekhar Kapur, who has made up with his uncle Dev Anand after eight years, describes the legendary actor as a "karmyogi, completely fearless" and says he is in many ways like the evergreen star.

"It was a time of great reflection for me. As I looked back, I suddenly realized I hadn't met this amazing man, Dev saab, for almost eight years. I told myself it's time to learn a little bit about life from Dev saab," Kapur told us.

"He's a karmyogi, completely fearless. I admire myself for being completely fearless. But I think he is even more fearless than I am," he said about his 86-year-old uncle.

Kapur regrets not having been in touch with Dev saab.

"I didn't even meet him after Goldie (Vijay Anand) saab's death. My fault. I was constantly travelling in recent years. I needed to re-connect with this amazing man who has gone through so many ups and downs in his life and yet continues to be tireless in his enthusiasm to make films.

"Wherever he goes, he's cheered and applauded. Maybe people don't like to see his films any more. But the love for the man simply grows wherever he goes," he said.

One of the greatest stars of the Hindi film industry, Dev Anand epitomised the suave, urban gentleman's image in Hindi films in movies like 'Munimji', 'CID', 'Hum Dono', 'Jewel Thief' and 'Johny Mera Naam'. He also directed hits like 'Hare Rama Hare Krishna' and 'Des Pardes'.

Kapur says he loves challenges just like his uncle. "Tell me something can't be done and I'll do it. Ever since I was a kid, I'd swim into the deep ocean. I'd ride the motorcycle the wrong way to see if death can get me. Don't turn to me or Dev saab and say something is impossible. They told me it was impossible for an accountant to be a director. I proved them wrong."

Kapur made his mark as a director in Bollywood with 'Masoom', 'Mr. India' and 'Bandit Queen'. Later he moved to Hollywood and carved a niche for himself by making 'Elizabeth' and 'Four Feathers'.

The talented filmmaker has come away from his meeting with his indefatigable uncle determined to correct the sparseness of his output.

"I know I haven't made that many movies. Look at Dev saab's output. But the fact is after directing 'The Golden Age' (sequel to 'Elizabeth'), I became keenly interested in New Media.

"Two guys in a garage got together and conceived YouTube. That made the way we access the world completely different. I started learning and lecturing on New Media because I thought sharing information and not harping on copyrights was the new mantra," said Kapur.

Kapur will now concentrate on making more films.

"There's no point in doing something unless your heart is in it. Right now my heart is completely into making movies, and not the Hollywood comic book kind of spectacles, please. Such films merely use my skills.

"And I'm a very skilful visualist. I'll make the films that I'll come out of satisfied after two years. I made three short films that gave me immense satisfaction," said Kapur who recently made the short film 'New York I Love You'.

He says it taught him the value of experimentation.

"Why can't a film be like a symphony? Why are we stuck on telling stories. Nobody looks at a painting and asks what's the story. I want to make films that make suggestions and create an emotional connect with the audience."

He is also designing a whole array of art on the theme 'Frozen In Time'.

"They are all in celebration of how we use water. I had become a water activist, led Greenpeace movements against global warning. I led a conference and designed a chandelier which will soon be in the market. Now it's time to make movies."

Kapur, who turned 64 on Dec 6, says he has also resolved to spend more time with his nine-year-old daughter Kaveri. The father and daughter have been travelling extensively together.

"It's fascinating to get into a mindscape so young. Kaveri is inquisitive, defiant and wise. I must say being with her is of prime importance at this stage of my life."

Maleyali Jotheyali. Kannada Movie Review

First thing first.

The "Golden Star" Ganesh and director Preetham Gubbi combination has worked well for the Kannada film Maleyali Jotheyali.

The film has some extraordinary music and visuals besides a good script work and dialogues. Ganesh complements these efforts of the technicians by giving the best performance of his career.

All these factors make this film a feast for all those who love good cinema.

Like in the case of Preetham's previous films as a director and writer, even this has a very thin story line. But what is interesting is that the film is presented in an ultra cool fashion from the beginning.

In the film that starts with a flashback, Gubbi has maintained consistency in narration giving little room for confusion or boredom for the audience. The way the songs are placed shows Gubbi's clarity in vision. The spectacular visuals have also added beauty to the whole film.

The idea of engaging a girl to please the other girl with whom the hero has fallen out at first sight is not a fresh idea but Gubbi narrates the story with lots of twists and good comedy elements.

Maleyali Jotheyali wins largely because of the pace and the last twenty minutes of the film. Maleyalli Jotheyalli is Preetham Gubbi's best script after Mungaru Male, but somehow he has not taken care to make crisp editing in the first half.

The story takes off only towards the end of the first half. There are also deliberate efforts by the director to revive the memories of Mungaru Male and introducing Cheluvina Chiththaara heroine Amoolya in a song. There is space for Devadasa, the rabbit who was part of that film. These things were unnecessary.

As in many of his previous films, Ganesh once again plays the role of an irresponsible and pampered youngster, Preetham. His rich father is obsessive about superstitions. Preetham is sent to Sakleshpur by his father where he meets Anjali. Later he also meets Shwetha, daughter of an estate owner and falls for her immediately. He seeks the help of Anjali for cementing his relationship with Shwetha who hates marriage.

Slowly all the three characters become closer to each other. Preetham who actually liked Shwetha first, slowly starts liking Anjali. Finally Anjali walks out without informing the other two. A distraught Preetham decides to find her and moves out to Bangalore. An amazing climax also sends a positive message to the audience.

Ganesh has delivered an amazing performance in the film. His body language perfectly suits the character. Anjana looks beautiful, but it is Yuvika Chowdhary who has come out with a very good performance. Rangayana Raghu as usual is classic in his role. Sudharani gives a neat performance in a brief role while the child artist makes a good impact.

Hari Krishna makes a strong comeback with his music composition. Both versions of Nee Sanihake Baralu, the title song are top class. S.Krishna is undoubtedly a perfectionist and each frame shows a glimpse of his talent. Mahesh and Vinayakram have done a good job in their debut as dialogue writers.

Maleyali Jotheyali is an enjoyable film and a real feast for Ganesh fans.

Telugu Movie Katha- Review

With the Telugu film Katha, producer Gangaraju gives us cinema of a different genre, the kind one would want to see more of than the flood of commercial ones doing the rounds.

It's not that it's totally offbeat but it certainly treads a slightly hatke path. Gangaraju has worked hard along with debutant director Srinivas Raga on this romantic thriller which has its share of thrills, songs, murder et al.

The story is told in two phases.

Phase I, which is set in Jharkhand, shows the ugly side of student politics (to a minimal extent though) wherein the principal of a college gets involved with rowdy student elements.

Fast forward to the next phase and one sees a bubbly Chitra (Genelia ) seeking employment as a teacher in a school at Araku Valley. A filmmaker Krishna (newcomer Arun) who is scripting his film runs into Chitra who also in a way provides the inspiration to write his film (he has his friends and co-director also who are working out various things. The murder mystery script written by Krishna has some uncanny resemblance to events in the film). Both befriend each other. Chitra lives in a house alone but has certain fears and hallucinations on account of something in her life which happened a few years ago. She is a witness to a murder being committed while she is out sightseeing. She informs the police. But the body does not turn up.

Then begins Chitra's mental ordeal. She hears all kinds of noises at night and sees shadowy figures at home which leaves her quite traumatised. She even takes Krishna's help but nobody is able to figure out anything about the murder. She is increasingly made to believe that its all hallucinations. Psychologically she's almost a wreck when there is a twist in the tale.

The film is quite interesting to view initially as the ground is being laid for the story to develop. The narration is gripping to a large extent. It's in the second half where it picks up steam though it drags a bit here and there. The suspense, nevertheless is maintained to some extent. The love story bit, however seemed to be half baked.

The film is shot decently against the picturesque Araku Valley backdrop. An effort has been made to make it spellbinding with eerie sound effects and good lighting. The background score is okay though a bit too loud in some places. The songs are quite pleasing to the ear.

The pairing of Genelia and Arun looked a bit mismatched though.

Genelia steals the show with her tremendous screen presence. She is ideally suited to play the character of Chitra -- as the role requires an actress of maturity -- and is able to portray the 'psychological' trauma well. She is really emerging as a fine actor able to portray complex characters. Newcomer Arun is fairly competent in his debut film while Prakash Raj is a brilliant actor and for him, roles like the one in Katha are an absolute cakewalk. Shafi, another proficient artiste, has done a good job. Raghu Babu provides the humour breaks in the film, which are rather distracting.

All in all, Katha is a film which will cater to a niche audience.

Aindrita Ray and Director Nagathihalli Bury the hatchet!

The quarrel between Aindrita Ray and 'Nooru Janmakkoo' director Nagathihalli has been solved with the quick intervention of the Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce. The actress had accused the director of abusing and slapping her during the shooting of the film held in Hongkong recently.

A meeting of all the prominent bodies of the Kannada Film Industry was called on Friday night at the Commerce building and the versions of both Aindrita and Nagathihalli along with other crew members of the film were taken.

The general opinion was that Nagathihalli should not have slapped Aindrita. The elders also opined that the actress should not have gone to the media without consulting them.

Nagathihalli and Aindritha have reportedly regretted the incident and thus the controversy ended amicably.

Artistes Association president Ambarish, Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce Dr. Jayamala, Producers Association president K C N Chandrashekhar and veteran director Bhagawan were present at the meeting.

Ranbir is Harpeet Singh Bedi, a youngster who just manages to scrape through his B.Com exams and one who is not interested in CAT. He wants to work as a salesman. He lands a job as a trainee at AYS Computers and within a few days is blasted for being a 'Mahatma in the jungle.' He complains against an employee of a firm who buys bulk orders from AYS because he is asking for his 'Cut'.

AYS boss and their sales manager see red. He is insulted and asked to make just 'cold calls' from his desk. Things take a turn for the worse when he is humiliated further by his boss. This, when all he wanted to do was tell his boss that he was using his office space to start his own company, Rocket Sales Corp.

Slowly he wins the hearts of four of his colleagues including the Sales Manager to buck up his sales order, which by now is on the upswing. Rocket Sales Corp steals the orders right from AYS's noses. They offer round-the-clock service and at a very competitive rate with minimal profit margins. Flustered, his boss offers to buy his company for Rs 60 lakhs. This call is made from within the same office and his boss does not know whom he is speaking with. To cut the long story short, their game is up when the boss makes a call to the MD of Rocket sales and finds that the phone rings in his own office.

Harpreet is forced to sign on a document, which waives off his right as an owner. But, this is not a win for his boss as he soon realizes that none of Rocket Sales' clients are now willing to do business with AYS even though both the companies have merged. And therein lies the business fundas of Rocket Sales Corp.

Shimit takes a neutral view of the business field and lays bare the employee-boss relationship as well as the 'percentage party' where the customer is the scapegoat. In the final analysis, as Harpreet tells his boss, it is not about driving your employees nuts to achieve sales target but by understanding them.

Shazahn Padamsee who makes her debut has the talent to come through. However, she has to work hard on her dialogue delivery and body language. Ditto Gauahar Khan who too makes her debut. Prem Chopra as Ranbir's grandfather finally gets a role of substance, suited to his age and he does a wonderful job.
