Bollywood hunk Sunil Shetty fights Naxals in his Next Movie.

Bollywood hunk Suniel Shetty has been best remembered for his muscles and action roles. Now, one will see a different side to his acting prowess in Anant Mahadevan's RED ALERT - THE WAR WITHIN, which is a realistic depiction of naxalism. If one needs proof of his scintillating performance, well, the actor has won the Best Actor Award at the international film fest, the South Asian International Film Festival (SAIFF). Obviously, the actor is elated and proud of the fact that his hard work has paid off but the award has also made him conscious of roles he would be choosing and portraying in future.

Talking of hard work in the project, Suniel admits to turning himself inside out for the role. The guy who has played a fearless hero in all his films, in RED ALERT he had to play a helpless and hapless farmer, who is lost and unkempt. He changed his body language completely. The macho man Suniel is quite comfortable with giving 'shots' with guns but in RED ALERT, he plays a farmer who holds the gun for the first time. So, director Mahadevan had him refer to the naive Dith Pran character in Roland Jaffe's KILLING FIELDS.

Suniel has not prepared for his role blindly. He is quite aware of the problem of naxalism. Ask him about his take on it and he admits that the problem is not plain black and white. It's more complex than one can imagine, according to him. He opines that naxals are often helpless people who have been exploited and their mineral ores seized and their existence threatened. One cannot just eliminate or deal with them harshly because they are our own people and not terrorists. Suniel also says that it is quite disheartening that the naxal violence has taken such shocking proportions. The actor is also aware of the fact that violence can only result in violence and the Red Belt is bleeding with violence now. The more we try to get out of this complicated situation, the more we get knotted up.

Well, now one can witness the portrayal that Suniel is so passionate about when the film releases on the 9th of July, at theatres near you.

Gushes Shetty in a media chat, "It's true that a big publishing house has approached me to write my autobiography. They feel that my life story will be an interesting one since I've seen so many ups and downs in life and have made it in the industry without the support of a godfather. Bollywood Star Vivek Oberoi's Move Prince moves towards Success!

Vivek Oberoi starrer 'Prince' has proved to be a shot in the arm for the actor as the film has got above average response at the box office. The film has also elbowed out Ritesh Deshmukh-starrer 'Jaane Kahan Se Aayi Hai' that fell flat courtesy its weak content.

''Prince' has met our expectations with close to 35 percent occupancy across different properties over the weekend. While 'Jaane Kahan...' has proven to be a below average kind of movie with just around 12 percent occupancy,' Deepak Taluja, senior vice president (business and operations) Fun Cinemas, told IANS.

'People are appreciating the content of 'Prince'. 'The Japanese Wife' on the other hand has done lukewarm business,' he added.

Piyush Raizada, director, Delite Cinema, an upgraded two-screener in the capital, also shared similar sentiments.

''Prince' has done very good business and the occupancy has been more than 50 percent. However 'Jaane Kahan...' has been very very poor with less than 20 percent occupancy,' said Raizada.

Made at a budget of over Rs.40 crore (Rs.400 million) by producer Kumar Taurani, the two-hour-six-minute venture boasts of action sequences exceeding an hour. It released with over 1,000 prints worldwide.

Directed by debutant Kooki V. Gulati, 'Prince' also stars Nandana Sen, Aruna Shields and Neeru Singh in the female lead.

Meanwhile, 'Jaane Kahan...' is the directorial debut of Milap Zaveri. Made on a budget of about Rs.10 crore (Rs.100 million), the fantasy romantic comedy released worldwide with around 600 prints.

Distributed by Warner Bros Pictures India, it has been co-produced by Mukesh Talreja and Nikhil Advani. It teamed up Riteish with Jacqueline Fernandez again after 'Aladdin'.

'The Japanese Wife', on the other hand, released with only 32 prints in India. Directed by Aparna Sen, it stars Rahul Bose, Raima Sen, Moushumi Chatterjee and Japanese actress Chingusa Takaku.

Munish Sharma, general manager (marketing), Satyam Cineplex, had positive reports for 'Prince' and 'Jaane Kahan Se...'.

'Both 'Prince' and 'Jaane Kahan...' did fairly well with close to 30-40 percent occupancy. Both are average movies but because there is a dearth of content these days, people are hungry for movies. 'The Japanese Wife', on the other hand, was a little lukewarm because of a niche audience value,' said Sharma.

PVR cinemas, however, was disappointed with the commercial potboilers.

'Both the movies have been disappointing. The content of 'Prince' has no value and fetched no footfall. It had close to just 20 percent occupancy while 'Jaane Kahan...' didn't do any magic on the big screen with below 10 percent occupancy,' said a source from PVR.

'However, 'The Japanese Wife' that released with limited prints and limited shows has got good reports with almost 40 percent occupancy,' the source added.

According to a statement released by Saregama Films Monday, the producers of 'The Japanese Wife', the movie has got 'a very promising start off at 88 percent initial collection'.

Star Abhishek Bachchan goes unrecognised in Goa

In Goa, he's mingled with the hoi polloi … and nobody figured him out! Abhishek Bachchan enacts a cop in Rohan Sippy's 'Dum Maro Dum', and the able actor, clad in the Goa cop uniform and riding a bike, speaking the local lingo… has been going around incognito!

Producer and pal Sippy was a much relieved man… as he was able to can his outdoor scenes without a hitch! Besides, a close source states that Abhy doled out instructions to a family in a car who were weary over an address and a crowd of ruffians swiftly dispersed as Abhy Boy came upclose, thinking him to be a real cop.

Presently, Abhy knows Goa like the back of his celeb hand considering that he has canned two flicks in the beach resort: Ashutosh Gowariker's 'Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Sey' and ' Dum Maro Dum'.

Guess, Abhy's two good…

Bollywood Star Vivek Oberoi thrilled by the grand opening his Movie Prince Got!

Actor Vivek Oberoi visited a cineplex here Friday night to do a reality check on the audience reaction to his 'Prince: It's Showtime' and says he was thrilled by the grand opening of the film despite an Indian Premier League (IPL) cricket match on at the time.

'To be honest, I didn't expect such a public response. I thought it's a nice film and people will enjoy it. I even thought that IPL is on so it would be a bit difficult, and especially there was a match of Mumbai Indians and Kings XI Punjab. When distributors and exhibitors called me and said that the halls are houseful, I thought I should personally visit and check it,' he told reporters.

Vivek said he sneaked into a hall of the Gaitey Galaxy in Bandra 10 minutes to the film's intermission.

People watching the film were unaware of his presence until media camerapersons came inside the hall and distracted the audience. His fans started howling and whistling and took him on their shoulders, cheering his performance in the film.

'I didn't expect it to be this crazy and I am really sorry for the media people who kind of got pushed around. But I really enjoyed it. Especially, when people started whistling...,' he told reporters.

Vivek went inside the hall unguarded, without any bouncer or police protection. But before the situation could go beyond control, he escaped from the hall through an emergency exit.

The actor also said he was inundated by messages on social networking site Twitter.

'I am in Twitter and you get instant feedback there. Some of them are so cute -- while watching the film they kept on twitting me... right now you did this... now you did that... it's mind blowing. It really feels nice when you get so much love,' he said.

Vivek, who has done mostly multi-starrer films, said it was producer Kumar Taurani's confidence that helped him do the film as a solo lead.

'Honestly speaking I wasn't very sure that I would be able to carry this film. No other known names... till now I have done mostly multi-starrer films so that the films get safe opening. But it was him (Taurani) who saw his prince in me and asked me to give my 100 percent. This is the biggest opening of my career by far,' he said.

'Prince...' narrates the story of a thief who wakes up one morning to realise that he has lost his memory and his life is at stake. The film also features Nandana Sen, Aruna Shields and Neeru Singh.

Vivek, who runs a school in Vrindavan for underprivileged girls who have been abandoned by their families, said he was planning to make a special screening of 'Prince...' for them.

'I want to do a special screening for the children in Project Devi in Vrindavan. There are 1,200 children there but in Vrindavan there is no 1,200 seat theatre, so I will have to divide them into two shows. My 1,200 small angels are very excited to see the film with me,' he said.

Asked if he believes that the blessings of these children have brought him success, he said: 'Most definitely. If you do some good work, being true to your heart, the blessings you get for it are incomparable. More important than anything else, that takes you to another level, at least spiritually you are very happy by that.'

Bollywood hotties Priyanka,Ranbir Kapoor and Katrina kaif! come together for a Movie

It's the grand mother of all casting coups! And no one's maintaining any 'Khamoshi' over it, either! Least of all UTV, with insiders setting the grapevine abuzz over the acting ensemble.

'Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani' and 'Raajneeti' have fuelled the interest of filmmakers who want to captialise on the onscreen chemistry between Katrina Kaif and Ranbir Kapoor, and the romantic link up spotlighted by the scribe tribe.

Director Anurag Basu's 'Khamoshi' showcases Ranby Boy enacting a deaf and mute character, matching histrionics with a giddy Kat. And post interval… the screen will illumine a mentally challenged character essayed by… Priyanka Chopra!!

Reportedly, Priyanka was swiftly charmed by the script and assented to it, at once. Kat's puzzled industry folks by opting for the Basu flick over Imtiaz Ali's 'Rockstar', which also stars Ranby.

Beautiful Dia Mirza gets choosy with her Movies

Dia Mirza is unperturbed about the fact that she has no films after her just released 'Hum, Tum Aur Ghost' because she says she would rather wait for good films than do unsatisfying work.

'I'm not doing anything after 'Hum Tum Aur Ghost'. If this was the situation five years ago, I would have got so worried and this fact would have killed me; it would have bothered me no end,' Dia told IANS in an interview.

'But now I am in a position where I am financially comfortable; so I am not working in a film to get that extra money. I am working in a film if I want to be a part of it. I'm in a position today that if I don't get the right role, I can sit at home for six months and not do a film that I don't believe in,' she added.

Dia, who won the Miss Asia Pacific beauty pageant in 2000, made her cinematic debut with 'Rehnaa Hai Terre Dil Mein' opposite R. Madhavan in 2001. Later she did films like 'Tumsa Nahin Dekha', 'Deewaanapan', 'Parineeta', 'Dus', 'Fight Club', and 'Lage Raho Munnabhai' among others.

Before 'Hum, Tum Aur Ghost' that released March 26, the 28-year-old has mostly been seen in ensemble casts or special appearances in films for quite some time now.

The actress now, however, feels differently: 'It's quality over quantity for me now.'

'For the longest time, I have been getting offers in films that I didn't want to be a part of. Even though they were lead roles they weren't something that my sensibilities could connect with,' she said.

'When you work for nine years you reach a stage when you don't really want to push the buttons any more. You just want to do things that excite you, motivate you and make you go to work the next day,' she added.

'I'd rather come in a good film after three years than do a film every year that I don't relate to. Script really matters,' she added.

In 'Hum, Tum Aur Ghost', where she is paired opposite Arshad Warsi, who is also the producer of the film, Dia played the female lead after many years.

Asked whether she would like to follow the footsteps of other actors in the industry and get into production, the model-turned-actress replied: 'All my friends are pushing me to get into production and direction. I'm not ready for it right now. Let's see how things shape up,' Dia said.

Bollywood Star Hrithik Roshan Makes his singing debut for Movie Kites

Bollywood actor Hrithik Roshan makes his debut as a singer in his much-awaited film 'Kites', for which he rehearsed 24/7 -- be it while brushing his teeth or taking a shower.

'Early in the morning, I would start with my sa re ga ma... right from the time I would wake up to brushing my teeth to taking the shower, all the time I sang with hand movements trying to reach the highest scale and the lowest note,' Hrithik said.

The song 'Kites in the sky' is in English and will be launched on national television along with behind-the-scenes footage March 29 at 9.30 p.m.

'I was nervous to make my debut as a singer, considering I come from a family that is well known in the world of music, but for this very reason my chacha (Rajesh Roshan) and director Anurag Basu were most certain that I could sing,' Hrithik said.

'My niece has learnt piano and she has this little Casio player which I borrowed. And I have the knack of finding any tune on any instrument. So I practiced on that for a week. Then I realized that it won't work like that and I got a professional trainer.

'I have given this song my best and honest shot but I still don't consider myself a professional singer,' the 36-year-old said.

The actor, who has done hit films like 'Kaho Naa...Pyaar Hai', 'Koi... Mil Gaya', 'Krish' and 'Jodha Akbar' among others, also revealed that his recording experience was different from what he expected.

'I had fallen in love with the art of shutting your eyes from the world and going in meditative state where you just sing. But when I went to the studio, it was a totally different story.

'They put you in this little compartment and you are not allowed to move because the mike is fixed. While practicing I had been so mobile. And now I was locked up in one place where I couldn't even move my legs because the breath shifts in different direction,' Hrithik said.

'Finally, I told them to just switch off all the lights of the studio because I wasn't being able to get my best out. So they just blacked out the entire studio. I could not even see my mike because it was so dark. This blackout worked and helped me to come out of the inhibitions in the mind. That's how I finally worked,' he added.

What does his wife Suzanne say about his new skill?

'She is obviously completely biased. She feels I am the best singer in the world. She compares me to Elvis Presley,' Hrithik said.

'Kites' is a film by Reliance Big Pictures and Rakesh Roshan. It is about two lovers and their thrilling journey filled with precious moments and unexpected betrayal.

The film also stars Mexican actress Barbara Mori, It will hit the screens May 21.

Directed by Shyam Benegal, the film is a tale of Armaan Ali, played by Irani, who works as a driver with a big businessman in Mumbai.

The film is a political satire, often witty and sharp but largely an ironic comedy with a central theme that deals with the many development projects that the government has initiated, which frequently get hijacked by systemic corruption.

Beauty Queen Sushmita Bowled over!

She'll be batting a fresh controversy soon. Sushmita Sen's rebonding with former love Manav Menon… and yet, a fresh romantic link is allegedly crystallising on the sidelines, if media reports are to be believed. And this one's an unusual suspect: Wasim Akram!

Their friendship took on a deeper note on the sets of the dance based reality show 'Ek Khiladi Ek Haseena' in 2008, where they hit it off rather well. Reportedly, Sen and Akram had first met at Dubai in 2006 when the cricket ace was still married and Sen was in a lovely tangle with Mudassar Aziz.

A lot of water has flown under those celeb bridges. Akram lost his spouse to cancer last year and Sushmita is Sen…tillatingly single now. Earlier, the duo have been spotted at various venues, but matters seem to be really hotting up now.

Apart from their common love for cricket, the pair share a soft corner for Urdu poetry. A close source states, "Wasim was brought in as a judge on Sushmita's insistence. He flirted with her on the 'EKEH' sets and would read out Urdu couplets to her."

Rather, she lost her kool… over a swarm of mosquitoes wanting to have a taste of her celeb blood! The 'Golmaal Returns' gal swatted down a sizeable number of the offending creatures who invaded her make up van, as they were canning scenes for a film at a locale replete with lush greenery.

Sukhani, though, has a way with daggers. Co star Rehan Khan of 'Tum Milo Toh Sahi' ought to know. He shuddered inwardly as Sukhani zoomed into action for a knife throwing sequence in the Kabir Sadanand helmed flick. A couple of tries later... she got it right, even as a young Khan composed himself and producer Nikhil Panchamiya beamed a relieved grin.

The friendly barbs hurled at Sukhani later… are another matter altogether.
